Greek National Independence Day Gala and Parade


March 25, 2008 marks the 187th anniversary of the declaration of Greece's seven-year struggle for Independence from the Ottoman Empire. It celebrates the birth of the modern state of Greece in 1821, after 400 years of Ottoman rule.

The Greek Community of Toronto, continuing its long standing tradition, is organizing two days of celebrations on March 29 & 30, 2008.

The Greek Community of Toronto is protesting the decision by the Government of Canada to recognize the FYROM under the name “Republic of Macedonia”.

We call upon all members of our community and Philhellenes to sign our PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS requesting the reversal of this decision.

It is important that we send a dynamic message that we do not tolerate being insulted by erasing or altering our history!
