The New Generation Department (NGD) of the Greek Community of Toronto serves the needs of Canadian youth of Hellenic descent between the ages of 14 and 35, through mentorship, educational and professional programs as well as social events. The department is the Greek youth’s link to the greater Greek community, and channels requests/needs to appropriateorganizations. The NGD partners with other Greek youth organizations, including dance and church groups. In particular, the New Generation Department has formal links with all Greek and Hellenic university/college student associations.

Κοινότητα έχεις Ταλέντο! Community’s got talent!

March, April & May 2012!
The Greek Community is hosting its first annual Community’s got talent show in spring 2012. If you are between the ages of 4 and older and have some sort of talent, please come share it with us. Each participant is expected to perform their act in front of a panel of judges, who will critique them and the top 12 acts will progress to the semi-final round. Then the top 5 will compete in the final round. All rounds are open to the public. Please stay tuned for more information throughout the year!



PhotoCompetition

This year, the youth have beengiven the opportunity to be incorporated with the Greek Community of Toronto’s annual Christmas cards. If you can draw, or have amazing photos with the theme of Christmas, please submit them to the Greek Community of Toronto for a chance for GCT members to see your talent. The winning photos will be put on the cover of the Greek Community’s Christmas Cards which will be chosen by a panel of judges to be appointed by the Board of Directors. The competition is open to all interested individuals, regardless of their age, and will begin on Monday August 30th2010. The final deadline for receiving proposals will be Friday October 15th, 2010. Awards will be given to the winning participants. Interested individuals are asked to submit only one proposal, in both print and electronic formats. The electronic submission should be on a CD (with the photo in either JPG or PDF format). Proposals should be forwarded in a sealed envelope with the indication Photo Competitionto the Greek Community of Toronto, 30 Thorncliffe Park Drive, Toronto, Ontario, M4H 1H8 with the complete particulars of the contestant included in the proposal package: full name, address, telephone.

MentorshipNight

May 2012
Our department partners with the Hellenic Canadian Board of Trade and hosts a “Mentorship Night” geared towards university students and recent graduates. Mentors are organized by profession and students have the opportunity toask questions to help make informed career decisions and allow them to start building their professional network. Attendees receive tangible help with Teachers College applications, graduate school interviews, as well as career guidance and mentorship.


UniversityOrientation Day

Where: Polymenakion Cultural Centre
Admission: Free

In partnership with the Hellenic Canadian Academic Association and the Department of Education of the Community, we host a “University Orientation Day” geared towards high-school students. Students are invited to meet professors of Hellenic descent teaching at Ontario universities. The professors offer information on their respective academic fields and provide advice and guidance to help make better university selections. Come out andlearn more about the growing university fields!
