E-Learning

All the students of the GCT schools and programs have access to the e-Learning program, which begins as a pilot project this school year, 2011-2112.

In co-operation with the Hellenic Studies Chair at Simon Fraser University, material is being developed to support the teaching of the Greek language in schools via the internet. During the first phase, the material will be used by the Adult Greek Classes of the GCT. Later on, different classes for students of all ages and levels will be created. In cooperation with their teachers, they will be able to work from home or from school on specific units
(called blended e-learning).

Also, the schools of the GCT will take part in a web-based learning project, which begins in January 2012. In this project, 30 Greek language schools and programs from all over the world will take part. This ambitious program, sponsored by the Greek Ministry of Education and the European Union is called
«Ελληνόγλωσση Πρωτοβάθμια και Δευτεροβάθμια Διαπολιτισμική Εκπαίδευση στη Διασπορά» (Greek Language Primary, Jr. High and High School Education in the Diaspora) and is run by the EDIAMME department of the University of Crete.

The aim of this program is to help grow and organize teaching materials for Greek language teachers via the internet. As educators learn about e-learning, they will have the opportunity to work with their students through modern means, which will be a more friendly tool for students in learning the language. Through this program, a network will be set up amongst schools, student groups and sister classes. Through these ways, new technology will help us to create a new Greek language and culture―learning community and to communicate with other centres of the omogenia, including other parts of Canada, the United States of America, Europe, Australia and Africa — wherever Greek communities exist and Greek language programs are operating at the elementary and secondary level.
